Carl McBride has been involved with Gospel music for more than 30 years. As a youngster, Carl developed a love for both Gospel and Soul music. He would often lie in bed in the wee hours of the night listening to WLAC, a radio station out of Nashville, Tennessee to hear the latest R&B and soul, as well as Gospel on Sunday nights.
In 1964, Carl became a member of the Interdenominational Community Gospel Choir, that later became the renowned FAMU Gospel Choir. Blessed with a gift of God, Carl's musical ear translated to his ability to play the piano without any formal training that along with being surrounded by so many talented musicians, has contributed to his musical development.
In 1978, Carl began to display his musical talents as a solo performer at banquets and weddings. This eventually led to various musical collaborations with local artists, but what really jump started the performer you see today, was his volunteer services at WAMF 90.5FM, the radio station for FAMU. Thus he became known as the Classic Man. And the rest is history…
